중요한 모던 아트 운동
시인 장 모레아스는 1886년 상징주의 발표에서 "인식할 수 있는 형태의 사고를 입히다"라고 말했다. 자유로운 상징주의의 기둥인 벨기에와 프랑스에서 상징주의자 그림이 발생했다. 이는 보들레르와 말라르메와 같은 시인 그리고 와그너 오페라가 연 문화 공간에 역으로 움직였다. 이들은 외형을 표현하지 않고 생각을 표현하고자 하였으므로 상상은 이들 작품에 매우 중요했다. "꿈"은 신조였다.

Gilles Neret was an art historian, journalist, writer, and museum correspondent. He organized several art retrospectives in Japan and founded the SEIBU museum and the Wildenstein Gallery in Tokyo. He directed art reviews such as L'Oeil and Connaissance des Arts and received the Elie Faure Prize in 1981 for his publications. Néret is the editor of TASCHEN'S catalogues raisonnes of the works of Monet and Velazquez, as well as the author of Dali The Paintings and Erotica Universalis. He died on August 3, 2005.

He has published numerous books, including studies of Bruegel, Gauguin, Duchamp and Calder.
